CFL Workshop Students are Saying...

Life Team 101 (LT101) Students
Sometimes I think I wondered, “What if anything, does Jesus have to say about abortion?” but LT101 has opened my eyes to this: Jesus’ ministry is a ministry of life. He heals the broken, restores the sinful, dwells and ministers to those viewed as worthless. He welcomes babies and the insignificant! That is abundant life.

This was great! I got a clear understanding of the gospel – which will help me as an individual as well as a possible Life Team member.

I love the emphasis on the gospel as opposed to over-practical training, good explanations, analogies and illustrations. The discussion and question format was helpful and enjoyable.

It was a blessing being with other like-minded people, passionate about life and Jesus Christ who’s given us life with purpose.

Thanks so much for your training seminar. It was very helpful in defining our mission and purpose.

The biggest strength of your training is your emphasis on gospel motivation. Keep it up!

The strength and highlight was the love relationship with Jesus. That reminds me where I need to be. Not angry or offended by the world.

This class is thick with the gospel.

I would LOVE to have (some or all of) our churches participate. This is exciting!

Doug you preached an awesome sermon this morning, as well as teaching the class.

Walking in the gospel-so powerful, loved the video clips, dynamic impact.

The focus on the importance of prayer was what stood out and impacted me the most…

Strength of Life Team 101: Looking at what God is doing in the world, focus on the people that God has put on the team in this place and time to discover His purpose.

Very well done-Biblically based-focused on Christ first and foremost-Practical-Clear presentation.

Great use of illustrations, clips, interaction from participants, practical stuff.

The video clips and illustrations added to the teaching of the class. Lord of the Rings was so inspirational and the way in which you presented it gave me hope to be a “beacon of hope” for others. Doug, you are an excellent teacher and I hope you have more classes in the future.

Describes clearly how our Life Team will work. Good idea to use the class as a filter for prospective Life Team members.

I liked the casual, friendly atmosphere and input of others. Lots of information presented clearly and given references to continue our learning after we leave the class.

I appreciate your slowing down and not giving us whiplash in trying to understand life-affirming ministry. Your knowledge and heart help in your presentation.

All enlightening – really shows you how to go about starting and where to go from there.

Every time I hear you talk about life issues it makes me more empowered to work for God. You are so encouraging and your ministry has really helped me grow in my faith. Thanks for everything!

This helped me a lot. Great job! You also made it fun to be here.

Your emphasis on the centrality of the gospel personally embraced and forming the basis for ministry is wonderful.

Practical application advice was very good. Good balance of lecture and interaction. Safe environment to provide feedback (no fear a wrong answer will be humiliating).

You’ve been so helpful. I can’t wait to go back and share with my [Life Team] committee and encourage them to attend [LT101]. Thanks especially for the “whiplash warning” – I’ll try to be enthusiastic without leaving others in the dust! Proverbs 3:5-8.

I liked the talking and openness of the workshop.

I very much appreciate the video clips and illustrations because I am a visual learner. If I can associate something visual with a concept it will stick in my long term memory. It makes it all come together for me and helps me understand so much more. [As a whole, the training was] organized, easy to follow, interesting, motivating, interactive. [Some highlights were] the illustrations/video, listening to others, a sense of support, take home manual.

Really strong and inspirational start. I found it very challenging and motivational. I had a great time! Thanks for taking the time to teach. I feel unsure of my leadership ability, so the last 3 sections [of the workshop] are pretty important, but I’m confident to carry them out!

Thank you so much for all of this! I believe it will be very beneficial information and tools as we further develop our Life Team. It’s already been beneficial to me personally! Remembering to reconnect with the gospel!!!

You effectively and creatively communicated the flow of ministry out of an active and personal love relationship with Christ. The percent of time you spent on this and the importance of relationship and approach in equipping others was critical to our Life Team, and applicable to any ministry. It is easy for planners to forget that a church is an organism and not a business organization. You clearly have a passion for the Lord and it is contagious!

How blessed is he who considers the helpless; the LORD delivers him in the day of trouble. Psalm 41:1

I appreciate the tone/state you set for us to engage in ministry. You didn’t tell us exactly what to do, you created a frame work for how we should do it. the stories you told brought home the appropriate approach we should have for whatever we do. You did this in a way that was gentle and yet made the point. I admire that and wish I was better at it!

Especially found useful the module on “balancing pro-life ministry: grace and truth” and writing the mission statement. Very well done.

I think this class was an excellent introduction to forming a Life Team – very helpful.

Sanctity of Human Life Workshop (SOHL101) Students

This was motivational and moving. It definitely reinforced my views and prepared me for the sanctity of human life season.

It was exciting to get specific ideas and think through the type of soils that are in our church. I am glad to know you are available if I have questions. Thanks for your time!

The workshop was great. Information was/is very helpful in equipping us to start a SOHL in our church. Materials are great – takes some of the preparation out [of our observing SOHL] because it is already done – equips us for a FAST START. Thank you.

Many seeds were planted and knowing our [church’s] soil is so important.

Very Scripturally sound.

This was more than I anticipated and just what we needed.

Sidewalk Ministry Students

Feet to Faith! Moves believers from bench warming pew sitters to a place where the truth is applied.

Connects “being” with “doing.”

There is no reason to be afraid and this helped to show that.

The fact that it points out the grace we should show to the situation and the people involved.

We have a wise, godly, no-nonsense man who loves Jesus, has a heart for the pro-life movement and is excellent in his teachings.

The information and points covered were great! It was refreshing to see the model of Christ being used for reference – that was clearly the “root” of your training, Amen! The maps were super and I believe that you educated your group about all things relevant to sidewalk counseling. I also appreciated how you emphasized “Doug’s opinion” when discussing matters such as graphic posters, or even what to discuss when talking to the workers walking to work (i.e. clinic employees). I couldn’t help but go to your “bootcamp” and then notice the signs of some of the other prolife supporters who had not been at your training. It made me happy to connect them to you, someone who would be able to gently direct them in a nonconfrontational manner. I believe that peoples’ hearts are in the right place (who hold graphic signs) but abortion is such an emotion-laden topic, it’s hard to know how to make an impact in this setting and I think that some people go overboard. Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we all were trained the same (i.e. in SSBC101) to stand on the sidewalk together and leaven an impact, being salt and light?
Gospel-Driven Sexual Integrity Training for Parents and Youth Workers

You are a great presenter. I love how you pray. You come across with full energy, ready to lead our hearts to the heart of God.

Highlights how much God loves and how this changes your life.

Many good things to think about. Well presented. Good examples.

The best way I learn is through examples, so I really liked the examples and it was a new perspective on things I’ve always been learning.

Good information – very well presented – down to earth – rational and reasonable.

Great examples (movie clips, water bottle, etc.). Also, great descriptive language regarding God’s love for us, His kids, and on our need to cultivate the heart. Very encouraging!

I liked that it got to the reason behind the sexual sin: the heart.

Very applicable to me as an individual, not just in my role as a parent.

Excellent approach and delivery! Objects used for illustration really made the point.

An excellent session dealing with the “heart” of sexual purity.

Excellent focus – I really liked the emphasis. I appreciate being reminded that my most important job as a parent is to draw my children close to God.

Very well presented. Very practical. A good reminder with helpful suggestions for talking to our children and to re-evaluate our own hearts.

Focusing on the heart is a great start. This was a great reminder for me and challenge to feed that relationship with Christ and to be a good example.

Thanks be to God...

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (Proverbs 22:1)
